With my « Crochet Universe » project, I have a unique opportunity to crochet my Francrochet collegues and in July I had the pleasure to crochet… Julie St-Hilaire aka La fée CROCHETte!

While going through Julie’s website to familiarize myself with La Fée CROCHETTE I discovered that we actually had quite a bit in common, mostly our love of amigurumi and colors.
I also immediatly noticed her adorable logo and felt it was important to take it into account when designing her mini doll…
And so I got started on my rebelious little fairy! I had a bit of a headache when choosing how to dress mini Julie… I wanted to avoid the « exploded rainbow » look and for the focus to be on her bright wings and hair…
In the end I chose to dress her in a simple black cami and jeans, but made a point to add a little embroidered yellow heart.
I had also planned to add a little yellow flower in her hair, but by the time I was done assembling mini Julie, I was so in love with her that I became afraid that adding anything else would ruin her.
Since I was already very happy with the doll, I decided to leave it be. I feel that sometimes adding too much, especially at that scale, can really make a project burdened.
And there we are, with a flowerless tiny Julie that retains 200% of her personnality!
Through these custom doll projects, as well as my fan art entries, I discover a lot of little tricks. With Julie it was how to properly represent her hair!
I wanted both colors, but I didn’t want to add paint to this project… then I was scared that by adding the red layer I would make it too bulky.
However, the end result actually looks great and the small about of bulk added actually makes the hairdo less stiff and more natural!
