Abbreviations

st(sts) – stitch(stitches)
ch – chain
DC – double crochet
3DC – thee double crochet in the same stitch (+2)
5DC – five double crochet in the same stitch (+4)
7DC – seven double crochet in the same stitch (+6)
sl – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
HDC – Half double crochet
CC – color of choice
Material

5 mm hook
Yarn used:
chunky (#6) polyester yarn – 87y (80m)
Yarn needle
1,5 cm diameter wood button (optional)





Gauge and instructions
You can easily adjust the pattern to fit any head, just make sure your starting chain fits well around the head. For reference, the starting chain here is about 19,69 in long and fits 20-22 inches head circumferences just fine depending on the type of yarn you use and how it stretches.

Finished size – 50 cm / 19,69 in de long by 11 cm / 4,33 in tall

Instructions

Headband

Setup – With CC, chain 71 stitches, turn, HDC to end (70)

Wrong side facing – Row 1) ch1, turn and HDC in the 3rd loop to end (70)

Right side facing – Row 2) ch1, turn, HDC in the back loop only, to end (70)

*On the picture you can see the 3rd loop’s position when the right side is facing you (row 1) and the back loop’s position when the wrong side is facing you (row 2).

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until the headband has the desired height. For the headband pictured here, I worked 8 rows including the setup row.

Wrong side facing – Final row) ch1, turn, loosely sc in the 3rd loop to end (70) Finish off leaving a long tail to sew both ends of the headband together.

Flower – [Instructions in brackets are worked in the same stitch]

Round 1) With CC, work 5 sc in a magic ring and join to work in the round (5)
Round 2) 2sc around (10)

First round of petals
Round 3) work in the front loop only, *sl, [3DC, sl]* repeat for a total of 5 petals.

Petal setup round
Round 4)
ch 5, sl in the stitch at the base of your first petal which is the back loop of round 3, repeat around to create 5 ch spaces and end with a sl to close your 5th ch space.

Second round of petals – You will be working in ch spaces you created in round 4.
Round 5) *
sl, [5DC, sl]* repeat for a total of 5 petals.

Petal setup round
Round 6)
ch 7, sl in the stitch at the base of your first petal of round 5, repeat around to create 5 ch spaces and end with a sl to close your 5th ch space.

Third round of petals – You will be working in ch spaces you created in round 6.

Round 7) *sl, [7DC, sl]* repeat for a total of 5 petals. Finish off leaving a long tail for assembly.

Assembly
You can sew a round button at the center of your flower as a cute detail, then sew the flower over the seam of the headband and weave in all ends and go play outside!
