A new pattern for the « Fantasy Cosplay Crochet Adventures » collection!
Available in English and French

I have a lot of admiration for people who crochet large projects, especially those who are able to crochet actual human sized costumes!

I simply do not have the patience so I will stick to making crochet costumes for my dolls lol!

One of these amazing crochet creator is my collegue, and friend, Fil de Cristal.

I did crochet her custom doll in 2022 for #OurCrochetUniverse and you can see her Francrochet interview here!

A few weeks ago we were chatting about her most recent geek event and she mentionned she wanted to create an original alchemist character for these events since she does sell a lot of potions amigurumi.

I was struck by inspiration and asked if she would be ok with me working on an alchemist for my « Fantasy Cosplay Crochet Adventures! » series. She said yes, I was over the moon!

Since most of her costume elements were blue, I decided my little alchemist should also be dressed in mostly blue.

I also decided she would be wearing pants so I could add a bit of diversity to the collection…

Because all the clothes in this collection are interchangeable since the dolls are all worked from the same base pattern!

I decided that my alchemist would have an asymetrical tunic with long sleeves, an essential when you work with potions, capri pants and high boots.

For the pants and boots I opted for different shades of brown for a leather/suede look.

Now, I think it’s important to mention that I prefer it when the doll’s clothes are fitted on the dolls, especially when I’m working on a smaller scale.

However, this means it can be difficult to put the clothes on them because fiber on fiber doesn’t really slide well.

Since the dolls for this series will mostly be collectibles, it’s not really an issue because once the costume is on and the doll is on display, we don’t need to take them on and off. However, if you do want to make one doll with a whole wardrobe, you can adjust the clothes by sizing up your hook and make them easier to put on and off.

Another essential item for our alchemist was a bag or basket to put her potions and ingredients.

I decided to make a simple open bag design with a long strap that allows the doll to wear it cross-body. It can be knotted or made shorter if you prefer for the doll to wear it as a shoulder bag.

To complete the look, I designed a cute magical hood inspired by the magnificient Polar Hood by Sylvie Damey, which is what Cristal uses for her alchemist cosplay character.

At first I wanted to make the hood as a part of the tunic, but it made the whole thing very bulky and hard to put on.

In the end, I made the hood as a separate piece.

The last element I added to the pattern, though the most adorable, was a tiny potion pattern!

I really wanted to include this in the pattern because it pulls the whole character together… but this is definitely the smallest thing I’ve made!

It is simply my absolute favorite part of this patern too!

Let us know in the comments what kind of characters you want me to add to this collection in the future!
