La Violette Yarn & Gift Co. is a relatively new business! To get started, would you tell us a little about yourself and how the fiber arts came into your life?
I knitted ad a Little girl with my mom and made some Barbie scarves, didn’t last. When I was in my forties I walked in my friends house at Christmas time and saw the stocking she had made and fell in love with knitting again. I had a goal to make 4 stocking for the following year….
By that time I made stocking, hats, scarves, sweaters…..I was hooked! I left the healthcare in 2020 and moved to NB in March to retire.
I arrived as the pandemic started and was bored. A friend told me about the yellow historic house for rent in Bouctouche and I had the crazy idea to start a yarn store. La violette is celebrating 2 years and it’s been a blessing.
I for one would like to know more about La Violette Yarn & Gift Co.! More about the name, but also what you aim to accomplish within your community!
La Violette is named after the NB national flower. I thrive in building a fibre community one stitch at a time.
We carry a wide variety of local products, hand dyed yarn and commercial yarn for all budget.
Our knitting circles are growing and we love the camaraderie.
Knitting, crocheting, felting, any hobby as been a definite stress relieve during the pandemic. So important to feed our creative side and keep our mind busy.
Browsing through your online store, I was surprised at the vast inventory of products available… at all pricepoints! How do you choose which products you want to offer?
It’s important to be able to offer good quality yarn for all budget. Let’s face it, if it’s not affordable you’ll give it up.
I always give clients options for all budget.
Is it a gift for a knit worthy person? For yourself? A baby?
So many factors involve in a garment making decision!
