While my « Pocket Birds – North America » crochet pattern collection was in testing, one of my testers had the idea to make a Christmas wreath with all of the birds.
Marie-Hélène had the best idea and I promptly stole it!
Except I didn’t because I actually asked her if she minded if I used her idea… because stealing is bad, but I wanted to be funny!

I was VERY motivated, and given the time of the year all the stores are filled with things to use for holiday crafting. And all of my birds were ready!
But then cold season happened, little and not so little emergencies to take care of… and then I was standing in the craft isle of the dollar store with absolutely no motivation left. I only had to grab a handful of things… but I felt like I was drowning.
I ended up not buying anything that day… then the days went by and I got super anxious about this whole thing.
Afterall, right now is THE time for a Christmas craft! It’s not even that hard… a bit of glue, some fake branches… I just couldn’t do it.
Then I found this adorable, ready-made, mini wreath and I thought… for 2.75$, I could cheat… right? Am I allowed to cheat and make this whole thing very, VERY easy?

In reality it was either go with that or forget the whole thing.
So here is my little DIY proposal, just in time for the holidays and with very little pressure to perform! You will only need a mini holiday wreath of your choice and your favorite pocket bird!
Then all you have to do is secure your bird in place on the wreath, either with glue for a more permanent decoration, or sewing it in place.

How??
1 – Use hot glue or contact glue to secure the bird on the wreath. This will be a more permanent solution, but it will make it hard to take the bird off the wreath if you want it for another project later on.
2 – Use yarn to sew the bird to the wreath. You will ahve to secure it in multiple places for it to hold, but if you eventually want to take the bird back it will be easier. It is what I chose to do for my little cardinal here!
Then I added a yarn loop at the top of the wreath to hang it… and I was done! In fact, it took me more time to write this post than it took for this whole DIY!
In the end, if your motivation quits on you and the DIY becomes a chore… it’s hard to still be creative. It’s better to give ourselves a little grace… and cheat!
Have you ever been super enthusiastic about a craft only to loose your motivation?
