Un crochet sur mesure fait au Québec?

* This is not a sponsored post; I bought the crochet hook and decided to write this review without compensation from Le Crochet Dingue.

2025 is not the best year I’ve been through, not going to lie it’s been… a ride. Let’s just say that with all the changes and not so great surprises that fell on our laps, it’s not been that much fun for me and the kids.

One of the smaller issues of the year? My favorite crochet hook has finally given up the ghost. The crafty fix that saved it years ago still holds true, but the new break is unfixable. I did try various amounts of glue, clay and tape… to no avail.

Lets observe a minute of silence for the Deceased Favored Hook.

And this happened a few days before the one craft fair I attend each year, the Festival de la p’tite laine, as I was trying to get a few little chickens put together for sale.

When it rains, it pours.

To make matters worse, that company was already a pain to have delivered in Quebec… I was really upset. Then I remembered that Lori, Le Crochet Dingue, had mentionned before that she was starting to explore making custom hooks with resin.

« Hey Lori… Help! »

A few weeks later (thanks Canada Post), I got an absolutely fabulous custom crochet hook through the mail.

I chose the colors, the beads, the shape… and really a unicorn horn hook… isn’t that just magical?

I did get some little extras because I was the first to get a custom unicorn hook!

Two assembly needles to hold pieces in place when assembling amigurumi…

And the cutest stitch marker in existance! It now lives on my handbag with my emotional support crow and popsicle.

I know it’s easy to fall in love with a glittery unicorn horn that melts from a deep pink to black… still, it needs to be functionnal… and the question remained.

I decided to go ahead and make another little chicken to test it out, using my favorite pattern.

Pattern: Pocket birds of North America

Why that one? Because I’ve made tons of them in the last weeks and I mostly know it by heart now!

Of course it’s hard to tell how durable the crochet hook will be and how it will hold up over time and use, but my first impressions are great! I like the lenght and weight of the handle and the shape of it is perfect for how my fingers curl around the handle as I work.

I do have a little doubt about the lenght of exposed crochet hook. Since I use a 2.5 mm, it is very thin and that’s actually how my last hook broke. I do think that the way the hook is made makes it more solid than my last one. Still, if I’d thought about it it’s something Lori would have been able to adjust and it’s actually quite easy to fix on my side.

And I will keep it in mind for my next crochet hook… let’s just say I gave Lori quite the challenge for the next one! 😉
