I think spending ten years on a creative project is quite the accomplishment and eventhough the fiber world is ever changing, I felt like talking about my experience.
This also aligns with my plan to be more organized… after all, by looking back on my journey, I might get some ideas about how to go forward!

So, what is having your very own creative business for a whole decade like? Well, it sure is a lot of blood, sweat and tears! I’ve talked about this at lenght over the years, about how it can become a complete nightmare because of the intense pressure to always create the next « viral » thing.

After ten years heading my crochet business, I have come to the conclusion that what works for me are passion projects.
In fact, chances are that if I had kept chasing the « next viral thing » instead of focusing on fun fan art projects… the Ghibli crochet book would not have happened!
If we add to this algorithms and marketing trends… I’m quite proud of myself for still hanging in there!
My other favorite project to date is #OurCrochetUniverse and all the tiny custom dolls I’ve had the pleasure to crochet for my clients.
It might be a step back towards taking custom orders, but I’m still very far away from animal hats that were all the rage in 2014 lol!

This project also inspired me to create a new doll format for my custom orders! As shown in the Mushroom fairy and Fox Sprite patterns, this size is perfect for more detailed projects.
It would be the perfect size for Dungeons and Dragons players who would like to have a custom doll of their characters… spread the word!
I think that would be the kind of orders that would be quite the 2024 highlight for me!
As I’ve mentionned before, the whole fiber world has evolved a lot these past few years. There’s a lot more competition and social media alone is no longer enough to put together businesses and their potential clients.
We’re leaning back towards newsletters and subscriptions and while social media is still a big part of most businesses’ strategy, it’s becoming harder and harder to get your content actually seen.
Video content is also taking over the space! While a nice picture could get you quite a lot of interest before, nowadays it is video content that will get you actual views. Another 2024 objective for me is indeed to make more video content to help get my existing patterns some attention… but it’s going to be quite the ordeal for me haha!
