I haven’t shared as much fan art this past year. It’s not that I don’t enjoy making them anymore but since they do not generate revenue, I’ve had to focus my time elsewhere for a bit…

This feels like a good moment to mention that you can help support my crochet addiction business in several ways:

Or place an order for your very own custom doll in just a few clicks!

The last fan art project I shared is still one of my favourite to date… even though it was quite the adventure! Discover it here.

My friend and I have been thoroughly immersed in the Yakuza series for the better part of the last… seven months or so. I started this post when we were about halfway through the “7th” game (if you know, you know), Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

And even if I have a ton of fan art projects on my list… not to mention the fact that I do want to make more characters from the previous games… I completely fell in love with the tiny pixelated characters on the game’s loading screen! How to choose which characters to make?

If you are not familiar with the game, there are six different characters that join your party—seven, if you count another character that doesn’t fight with you, but helps out in the background!

It’s a lot. Especially when you take into account that I couldn’t resist making a whole set as a gift for my friend! That’s 16 dolls!

It really is the biggest fan art project I’ve ever worked on!

I had such a sound plan! I was going to focus on groups of three or four characters and assemble them before moving on to the next group. This would prevent me from becoming overwhelmed by all the assembly.

It was a great plan! I felt like a smart and organised crafter who works in a deliberate way to keep their wrists safe from repetitive movements…

I could pretend that I did work like a smart person… but I’m fairly certain I missed the mark.

I tried so hard! I did manage to complete the first six dolls (three characters) before moving on to the rest of the characters…

Sadly, I lost control after this and the first thing I knew, I had ten tiny dolls to put together…

It was not the most fun I ever had… Assembly is not a relaxing part of the creative process for me lol!

Sadly, it is an unavoidable part of tiny fan art projects!

Once I was done with the first three characters, including putting them together, I had to face the fact that there was a lot of crocheting with black yarn in my immediate future.

Black is rarely fun to work with because it can be hard to see the individual stitches, so let’s just say there was some creative grumbling going on.

In the end I was quite happy with my decision to make this additional character… if only because of the splash of colour her hair adds to the whole project!

After weeks of work, it pretty much became my biggest fan art project to date! And I have to say at one point I became very anxious because of all the sewing and figuring out the details.

In the end, I came out of this project feeling like I should definitely revisit the previous entries in the series so that my tiny Kiryu and my tiny Majima stop feeling so lonely surrounded by “the kids” of the new generation.

Right now, if you are familiar at all with the series, you must be snickering at the whole “old person” thing with me… knowing that the “kid” hero of this game is actually 42 years old lol!

I am beyond thrilled with this collection! To the point I actually reworked my desk display so it would be right next to me while I work! Sure, I was in such a hurry to share this with the world that I still haven’t figured out what I was going to do as a background for them… but they’re already looking great!

Can you tell that I like having all my amigurumi close by?

If you are anything like my kids, you’re wondering how tiny Ichiban Kasuga is levitating over his little friends… let’s just say that the tiny dolls fit very snuggly in this souvenir frame I got from the dollar store!

And I got a few because I have tons of ideas for amigurumi displays! Stay tuned!
