Having a small business often means we comandeer a tiny corner of the hourse to set up shop. Since I started La rose du rang in 2014, my tiny corner has evolved quite a bit and after giving it yet another upgrade, I felt like talking about it.
When I started La rose du rang, I really couldn’t setup my tiny corner away from everything… I needed to be « right there » with the kids so it ended up being just that; a tiny square of wasted space next to the couch.
And this is how I kept it for several years… though I quickly became tired of having my yarn constantly falling off the shelves.
So the « first move » started with me moving the yarn to the living room closet… which instantly made the whole room a lot less cluttered! Still, I remained trapped by the couch.
Then one morning while we were out shopping, I found an adorable wall mounted desk… and I fell in love with it!
It gave me a bit more space to do actual work and the shelving unit was perfect to display my favorite pieces… and it was on sale!
I really loved that setup, it was very bright and luminous!
Four years later though, more shelves were added, more display and additionnal storage bins… and the larger work space wasn’t so large anymore…
I know I’ve been mentionning it quite a bit in my social media posts lately.
To be fair, my tiny office corner became not only the spot for me to run my crochet/knitting business, but also my workspace for my watercolors breaks and virtual assistant job.
For the past few months, I’ve been dreaming of having a more suitable space to create.
And this is how I ended up one week from the biggest professionnal event for La rose du rang, the Festival de la P’tite laine… with no office.
Let’s just say that when I took down the desk, I was praying very hard that Amazon would actually deliver in two days and that I would only have to survive the one day with no desk.
And looking at my empty space, I found myself missing the bookshelf.
So I decided to take the old desk apart to work the bookshelf into the new setup!
Luckily my new desk arrived bright and early the next morning, thank you Amazon, and I was not patient enough to wait for Danis to put it together.
I was relieved to find it actually very easy to assemble!
Right now the bookshelf is a bit empty, but that’s because all of my Ghibli book amigurumi are with my Festival de la P’tite laine things.
So that’s it, my brand new office… I can’t wait to see what I’ll be creating now!
